Thomas McMillan

Thomas has 20 years of experience in marketing, branding, research and go-to-market communications, helping both companies and non-profit organizations develop clear consumer insights and powerful brand strategies that kick – well, you know what. Thomas grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana, the land of Mardi Gras, and once ate five dozen oysters in one sitting. With crackers.

What do you love most about what you do?
“I get to do what I love everyday with fun people. The awesome view of Pikes Peak from our conference room window isn’t bad either.”

What's your biggest pet peeve?
“Drivers who feel the need to slow to 1 MPH before turning right."

Why do you want to work with non-profits?
"They have a real passion behind what they do."

Scott Appel

Director of Marketing Services

Scott is a seasoned marketing and communications expert with more than 18 years of experience in marketing strategy, branding, public relations, social media and corporate communications. His experience spans both agency and client-side with both for-profit and non-profit organizations. He's a devout Star Wars fan, is currently the reigning FourSquare mayor of 20 locations and enjoys life between Phoenix and Colorado with his loves: his wife, Martha, step-daughter Amy, step-son T.J. and Basenji/cattle dog mix, Jesse.

Why did you go into marketing?
"It melded well with my creativity and imagination. It’s awesome to inspire people to understand what you’re about and motivate them to take action. It ain’t always easy."

What do you wish more people knew about you?
"I’m a trombonist and a soundtrack/musical score junkie."

What's your Starbucks of choice?
"Grande bold in a Venti cup."

Cristina Schuett

Strategic Design Director

She has more than eight years of experience in brand identity design, system design and perception-based strategic design for corporate, retail, product and entertainment brands that have been implemented in over 12 countries, worldwide. She's a dancer, an avid hip-hop enthusiast and the proud owner of nine different pairs of Chuck Taylors®.

What do you love most about what you do?
"Every day I get to work with a team of the most amazing talents I’ve ever seen. It’s no longer about what I can create on my own, but what we can imagine as a whole. The best part is absolutely knowing that we’ve built the perfect team to solve the client’s challenge and then watching it as we bring it to life."

How did you know you were meant to be a designer?
"Absolut vodka. It's a long story."

Song most likely to be stuck in your head?
“Random TV theme songs. The Adams Family theme is always pretty close to the surface.”

What color are your chucks?
“Red, pink, green, blue, purple, brown, charcoal, black.”

 

Judy

Judy Hermstad

Operations Director

Judy comes to CSK with a wide variety of life experiences. In her 10+ years of business experience, she has been involved with finance and banking, human resources consulting and communications, as well as over-all operations. Her organizational skills have not only been used in the business sector, but in philanthropic circles as well. She has been involved with two business start-ups and has run volunteer organizations of 200+ people in the non-profit sector. When she is not in the flurry at CSK, she is at home relaxing with her family or caught in a snowstorm on the mountain, downhill skiing.

What do you love most about what you do?
In my position, I get to see progress on a daily basis—from handling issues with employees to finance. It’s always challenging and diverse. My days FLY by!

Why do you want to work with non-profits?
Non-profits were formed with “heart” in mind. There is a greater good, a purpose to be fulfilled. I like working with organizations that work hard to make people’s lives better and the world a better place to be.
